What the sources say
On May 21, 2026, the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Austria and 38 partner organizations held a march in Vienna to mark the 20th anniversary of World Vyshyvanka Day. The procession moved from Maria-Theresien-Platz to Michaelerplatz. Participants from Ukraine and over 15 countries carried the 165-meter embroidered Rushnyk alongside a 30-meter Ukrainian flag.
The 165-meter cloth is part of an initiative to connect people through art. Organizers plan to attach it to a 700-meter embroidered cloth rescued from Kherson during the Russian occupation. The long-term goal is to extend the combined piece to a full kilometer and enter the book of records as the world's largest embroidered cloth.
At the end of the march, Michaelerplatz hosted a festival of Ukrainian culture. The event featured performances by the Ukrainian choir Barbareum, bandura music, and exhibitions of authentic costumes from Bohdan Shutka's private collection and Karina Haieva's unique Wybijka collection.
