RUSHNYK PROJECTS WORLDWIDE

Rushnyk of Unity, Kalush College of Culture

About 350 students and teachers embroidered an 11.79 m cloth with ornaments from all of Ukraine over six months; shown in Ivano-Frankivsk in May 2025. Same name, unrelated project.

This is a separate initiative with its own organizers. The travelling Rushnyk of Unity — Rushnyk of Victory, shown in Carleton Place in 2026, is another project.

What the sources say

The "Rushnyk of Unity" is an 11.79-meter long and over a metre wide cloth created using the felting technique. It features 22 ornaments representing different Ukrainian ethnographic groups. These patterns were adapted from a collection of historical designs gathered by the Union of Ukrainian Women of America.

Around 250 students and over 100 teachers from the Kalush Professional College of Culture and Arts spent six months working on the piece. Initiated by Ivanna Svyryd and led by Yuliia Olinkevych, the project set a national record in 2021. The central design includes the college emblem alongside the coats of arms of Kalush and Ukraine.

The cloth traveled to multiple regions across the country, with exhibitions in cities including Bucha, Borodianka, Hostomel, and Bila Tserkva. In May 2025, students and teachers presented the piece outside the regional administration building in Ivano-Frankivsk. Organizers plan to show it to the Ukrainian diaspora abroad.
