About the business

Cookiddoo is a cooking school for children in Kanata, at the western edge of Ottawa.

Children aged 4 to 15 cook dishes from scratch in a real kitchen, and the studio is clear about who does the work: its chefs guide and mentor, while the children do everything else themselves. On its own Our Story page the studio calls itself the only kids-only cooking studio in west Ottawa.

A master class runs about two hours and is capped at ten children, so each one gets enough of a chef's attention. It is a drop-off format — parents leave their child in the studio kitchen and come back at the end. Everyone is given a branded apron and hat for the session, and each child goes home with a personalised recipe.

Around those single workshops sits a fuller programme: multi-week Junior Chef courses, full-day culinary camps for ages 7 to 13 in a nut-free kitchen, birthday parties, themed and family classes, and cooking programmes for schools and daycares run either at the Kanata studio or in the school's own classroom. The studio's menu also lists gift certificates, an online shop, party and corporate catering, and balloon decoration for events. Classes are offered in English and in French, and the website is published in English, French, Ukrainian and Russian.

Cookiddoo publishes its own reviews page, where it quotes a Google rating of 4.7 stars from 28 reviews and links straight to the profile so the full, unedited reviews can be read at the source. The same page answers the complaint that comes up most often — that the studio is hard to find the first time — with a parent's own directions to the door. The drop-off model is also offered to franchise partners in other Canadian cities, with training, curriculum, branding and marketing supplied by the Kanata flagship.
